Oceans, Beaches and Underwater World
Marine pollution and overfishing has been a matter of serious concern to me ever since.
At the end of 2010 I started to implement this topic and transform my ideas into my paintings and works of art. At first my pictures seem to show colourful paradises . It is only when you look closer that you start to feel irritated by plastic pieces in this coulorful paradise.
In my works I reveal traces of our affluent society along the coastlines. It sometimes takes years before marine debris find its way from distant countries to our beaches in Europe.
My assemblage works capture moments when the spray of a big wave seeps into the sand and exposes pieces of fishing nets, parts of plastic waste, driftwood and roots of old trees.
In my pictures I unite natural materials with colourful plastic, the signs of our fast moving culture. For example my finds are embedded on a metal plate as the supporting material– and form a material mix of bone glue, pure colour pigments and plaster.
